Laminar burning velocity of natural gas/syngas-air mixture

چکیده
This study suggests the equimolar mixture of Natural Gas (100% CH4) and Synthesis Gas (40% H2 + 40% CO + 20% CO2) as an alternative to reduce hydrocarbons consumption and reduce pollutant emissions. As a key parameter to characterize this combustible mixture, the laminar burning velocity was studied based on numerical simulations and experimental measurements in fl ames generated using a contoured slot-type nozzle burner and the Schlieren technique, varying the air-fuel ratio at standard temperature and pressure. It was found that the fl ame speed of the equimolar mixture increases with respect to that of pure methane. This behavior can be explained by the presence of hydrogen in the fuel mixture, which has a direct effect on the combustion kinetics, generating H and OH radicals that increase the global reaction rate of the mixture and consequently the burning velocity.

متن کاملThe Temperature and Pressure Dependencies of Propagation Characteristics for Premixed Laminar Ethanol-Air Flames
Laminar burning velocity is strongly dependent on mixture characteristics, e.g. initial temperature, pressure and equivalence ratio. In this work, spherically expanding laminar premixed flames, freely propagating from a spark ignition source in initially quiescent ethanol-air mixtures, have been imaged and then the laminar burning velocities were obtained at initial temperatures of 358 K to 500...

The growing implementation of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) in reducing NO(x) emissions of engine is of paramount motivation to perform a fundamental research on the flammability characteristics of fuel-air-diluent mixtures. In this work, the influences of EGR on the flammability region of natural gas-air-diluent flames were experimentally studied in a constant volume bomb. An assumption of c...
متن کاملMeasurements of Flat-Flame Velocities of Diethyl Ether in Air.
This study presents new adiabatic laminar burning velocities of diethyl ether in air, measured on a flat-flame burner using the heat flux method. The experimental pressure was 1 atm and temperatures of the fresh gas mixture ranged from 298 to 398 K. Flame velocities were recorded at equivalence ratios from 0.55 to 1.60, for which stabilization of the flame was possible. The maximum laminar burn...
متن کاملFlame Speed Characteristics of Syngas (H2-CO) with Straight Burners for Laminar Premixed Flames
Laminar flame speeds of undiluted syngas (H2/CO) mixtures have been studied at atmospheric conditions using chemiluminescence and schlieren techniques for a straight cylindrical burner apparatus. A wide range of mixture composition, from pure H2 to 1/99 % H2/CO, has been investigated for lean premixed syngas flames. To achieve a better flame stabilization and reduce flame flashback propensity, ...
